Random thoughts

Finals suck, badly.  I don't understand why we need to take a test to show that we learned all this stuff during the semester when we take test to show we have learned it periodically.

She is great. I'm thinking about giving up. I don't like to give up, but really...is it worth it? She'll be the one I regret never having a chance with.

I'm ready for NY.  I know I'll be working most of the time, but I need the time away from this place. The time to clear my head, meet new people who have some common interest, and a chance to go to the city where I feel I belong are much needed.  Maybe the trip will help my mind with random thought #2.

Finals still suck.  They need to be over. Oh well, one more day.

I really need a scotch, neat. It's simple and it shows that I'm a man who knows what he want.

I hope next week has more sunshine. I want to go running outside, maybe walk around in it a bit.

Back to studying. I've wasted enough time on here.

My summer home...

No, I don't actually have a "summer house" that I vacation too....yet.  However, I will have a new home this summer.  That new home is...

NEW YORK CITY!

That is correct, I will be spending 10 weeks of my summer close to NYC!  I can't wait, to be honest.

How did I land this, you may ask?  Well, I landed a summer research gig at a government lab on Long Island.  It seems that being a chemistry student has it's perks.

So, In the coming weeks, I'll be writing a lot about NYC, things I want to do and things I'm going to do.

Suggestions on places to visit? eat? socialize?

Bean, Brooks, Jcrew OH MY!

Well, I feel it safe to say that Spring is here, at least according to the retail world. So, since it's been Spring Break this week, while most students were out on cruises or at the beach, I (dramatic pause) decided to go shopping!

Sadly, I don't have a BB or a Bean store in Oklahoma, so I have to shop online for them. It makes me really sad. I honestly think my favorite part of shopping is the "trying on" part. That being said, I love when I hear a knock at the door, I open it, see the UPS/FEDEX man walking away, and a small package sitting on the ground. My heart jumps. I grab the package, run to my room, and go crazy!

At bean, I was simple...like always. I went and picked up a handful, seven, Pinpoint OCBDs in a mixture of colors. Lilac, french blue, blue, and lastly the ever necessary white.  The shirts are amazing, great, perfect...(Sorry, I ran out of adjectives to use due to my limited vocabulary).  They are priced greatly, and are very easy to launder. Any guys out there that need a few button downs that work for several occasions, these are for you!

Next, Brooks!  So, I cheated this season and grabbed a few winter pieces off clearance and they'll be included, but I had to.  I went a little crazy this season at Brooks.

There was more, a lot more.  Sadly, links were broken, or it was clearance and no longer avalible.
Lastly, I went to Tulsa on Wednesday. I originally went for glasses, and long story short, I ended up in the mall walking around J. Crew and Macy's.  One thing led to another and I was in the dressing room trying on clothes, having girls ask me if everything fit, and if I needed other sizes.  I thanked them, said no, and giggled. I KNOW my sizes.

The shorts are from J.Crew. They feel and look divine. The picture doesn't do the middle pair justice.  The shirt was a quick grab from Macy's and is Ralph.

So, enough about my buys.  What'd you treat yourself to this season?!

Snow, Ice, and the impendng death.

Saturday
I wake up, it's like 55 degrees out.  I head to the gym, workout a little bit then head to the track. By this time, its near 70!  I'm ecstatic!  I finish a good run, head home, shower, throw on some shorts and head to the library to get my study on.  Everything goes good, spend the evening at home doing whatever random stuff I decided to do.

Sunday
I wake up and its a bit cooler, but not too bad.  High was lower, about 60, and wasn't too bad.  Spent yet another day at the library, get home and get a good nights rest for Monday.

 Monday
I head to the gym at 5:00am and have a great morning.  Good lift, good run, but boy was it cold.  19 degrees out!  Well, had the Organic test (made a B, shrug) and then had a normal Monday.  (You know, rubbed elbows with celebs, took some pictures, lunch, and the occasional note taking in class) Well, I get through my day, go to all my meetings, and get home.  It's still like 20 degrees outside.  I'm like "double-tee-eff, mate....the high dropped like 50 degrees in less than 48 hours! Oh well, school's cancelled tomorrow and the 'storm of the century' isn't even here yet! I can go for more of this."  Well, midnight comes and I'm tired of waiting on this "storm", so I hit the sack.

 Tuesday, approx 6:15am:
"What's that noise?!", I whisper as I yank the covers over my head.  I look towards the window and realize what it is....SLEET!  "Well, I guess that storm is here....8 hours late."  I slowly climb out of bed, look outside and see nothing but white.  "WOW! It did come!" I get some water, head back to sleep.

(Pulls remote out, fast forwards to Tuesday 9pm)
"Well, We're out again tomorrow. Score...I need to study anyways." (I still haven't) It doesn't look that bad out there, we'll be back to class on Thursday.

(Fast forwards to Wednesday)
"Wow, we're out again! I'm studying all day till they decide to cancel class on Friday or that we are having it."

(Fast forward an hour)
"I guess I should go out for a little bit.  I'll head to 'the office' and hang with Marty for a bit!"  So, I get dressed.  Old boots, old jeans, a t-shirt, and the Patagonia and start the walk.   The trek was rough.  Roads, parking lots, buildings all covered in ice. Thoughts about the weather plagued my thoughts. I began to question my insanity, to question my motives, to question everything.  "It's gloomy out! It's cold out! It's no fun!  What was I thinking? I should have stayed home.  Are you an idiot?  Oh well, I'm almost there anyways."

 (Fast forward to Friday 10am)
Stretching and tossing a little bit as he awakes, Anthony slowly gets out of bed and checks his email, text messages, and facebook stuff via his phone.  "MORE SNOW?!?!?!  What?!"  I jump out of bed, run to my window, look outside and almost fall over. It's really coming down!  This is bad!  St. Louis trip is next week. I need school, I need clear roads, I need to get home!

 (Friday evening news)
"Estimated 6 inches before it ends tonight, slightly above freezing over the weekend, with a chance for a few more inches of snow on Sunday.  Monday should be cloudy and cold, with a chance of 6-8 inches of snow on Wednesday and Thursday. Back to you, John!" Thanks, Frank.  In recent news..." It fades into the background as I think.."14 more inches, and this crap hasn't even started to disappear.  They need to just cancel the spring semester and let us just retake all the classes in the fall no charge."

Well, that's how the past 5 days have been and by the sounds of it, how the next few weeks may be.  Even though above I stated I haven't gotten any studying done, I have.  It was just that particular day that I didn't.  I feel slightly accomplished. I have gotten to spend some time doing things that I missed and enjoyed.  I've tried making the most of it, but it is time to head back to class. Time to head back to the normal life; the days of meetings, class, stress, and preparing for the future.

These last few days have helped me realize how much I miss the sun.  How amazing pizza sounds when you can't get it very easy.  And, it's given me time to think and browse around about what I want to get for the spring wardrobe!  (That's another post....very soon!)

I hope everyone has been safe during this dreary weather!  What have you been doing to avoid the boredom?

New Years Resolutions

Greetings again!  It has been far too long since I visited this place and shared my thoughts, but in the New Year, I am hoping that changes.  Ironically enough, that leads into the topic of the post:

New Year's Resolutions!

Now, I know a lot of people think these are a joke, and for some people they are.  However, for a small group of people, New Year's Resolutions give them hope.  Hope for a change, Hope for bettering their life, and Hope that they can find success and feel good.  So, to start off the New Year, I want to help you all achieve your resolutions!  Here are a few tips to achieve those goals!
  • Make Only One Resolution! This is a no brain-er!  Focusing on one thing makes that one thing easier and consequently will make success easier.
  • S.M.A.R.T goals:  Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time based goals.  Instead of saying, I want to loose weight, set a specific amount.  A pound a week?  A pound every two weeks?
  • Effects:  For example: You want to quit smoking.  Think of how it will effect those around you, and not only yourself.  Make a list of the health benefits and the perks, and place it somewhere that you'll see it often to be reminded.
  • Be public about your goals:  Share them with a friend!  Your friends and family can be an enormous support system, why not use them? Let them know what you're doing, and when they see you struggling a bit, they'll be there to give you that boost to keep you going.  Heck, maybe even one of them will hop on board and do it with you!
  • Don't give up: Everyone slips and makes a mistake every now and again.  Don't sweat it.  Just keep at it.  Experts say that it takes 21 days for something to become a habit, and six months for something to become part of your personality.  These habits will be second nature in no time.  Remember, two steps forward, and one step back is still forward motion!

Now, I guess I should share my resolutions.  I actually didn't listen to the first tip, and made four!

(queues drumroll)

MY RESOLUTIONS FOR 2011

1)  Obtain a 4.0 GPA in both semesters this year.

My grades are very important to me, and I haven't been on top of them recently.  It's my own fault, placing other things before them because it is easy to go have fun verses sitting in the library studying.  So, this year it is my goal to obtain straight A's as a Junior in College.  Sure, it's going to be a challenge, but it is something I can achieve.

2) Time Management:

This is my weakness.  I've always lacked the ability to manage time well.  I always pile a lot on my plate, and stretch myself thin.  Fixing this problem will help a lot of things in my life.

3) Loose weight:

Yup, going with a classic.  Starting the first day of school, I'll be working out with a friend and have set a goal of, you guessed it, loosing ONE pound a week.  Originally, it didn't look like a lot. However, with 52 weeks in a year, that would be 52 pounds gone, and a fabulous feat!

4) Be Happy!

This one is simple, and easy to do.  It means taking time to do what I want to do, spending time with my friends, and exploring life.  Simple, and obtainable!

Those are my resolutions.  I'm hoping to tackle them, and keep you all posted on them.  Do you have any?
